Three of the most powerful words in any language are “I love you.” Can anything cause more happiness, create more serenity or cultivate more confidence in the soul of man than to hear the words “I love you?” When you hear those words from someone that you also love, your first thought is how can I express the comprehensive love I have for you?

Real love must have an avenue of expression. Contrary to the old cliché, “absence does not make the heart grow fonder.” Absence creates aggravation, heightens doubt, and prevents the opportunity of expression and growth.

Jesus said, “I love you. Now remain in my love. I have told you this so that my joy may be complete.” Christ expressed His love….by giving of Himself and by caring more for others than His comfort, wealth or well being.

A normal expression of love is giving. A mountain spring that flows gives water crystal clear and clean. If the spring refrains from flowing, it becomes contaminated. On the “old home place” where my father was raised, my grandparents carried their drinking water from a spring above the barn. The water flowed out of the mountain and it was clear and exquisite. Some years ago a well was drilled to provide water to the house. The spring is still there but the water that it gives is muddy and impure. Oh, if only that water could be clean, clear and exquisite again – if the spring could only flow – only give. Listen to me, love must express itself by giving and sharing. There is no other option.
